On the line... World Cup racing!!!

On the brink of qualifying...

Well, what a week I've had away from home in Canada, I always love coming here, it's such a chilled out place with good food, nice people and well an amazing track. I've been travelling with: Dan Critchlow, Scott Mears and Damian Groves (4X rider), and there's always stories to be had travelling with that bunch and what a laugh it's been!
Waterfalling with the boys!

The track then, at 3.1km it's one of the longest on the circuit and right from when you leave the start ramp your flat out.. Into series of switchbacks, dip in and out of the rocky technical woods before going on the piste, hitting the step downs under the gondola, rail the turns and then back on the pipe before turning back in to the woods for the last technical section before the sprint to the finish line jump!

Practise went great and I punched out a solid 7 runs in the mud and rain, a couple of crashes, one very swollen/stif knee but I was pretty ready for qualifying.

I squeezed in 3 runs before qualifying and everything went smooth no crashes or mechanicals, bit of pasta and I headed up for my run. I had a good run, a little mistake prior to the first split, and I was 80th (just in), I had a big moment just before the second split and pulled a massive nac nac at the end of the woods, I was still 76th but across the boggy section had lost all my speed that I needed to carry me through the next section I pedalled hard across the line and went into 72nd, finally finishing 84th.

Muddy bikes was a thing of this weekend, washing them after every run to keep them running smooth!

Whilst I was devastated not to qualify, I'm staying positive and focussed on whats ahead, I enjoyed my run and know I am on pace, all I now need is a little bit of luck. I have a enjoyable few days lined up with riding at Diablo Bike Park and shopping in Montreal before we head to Windham for another chance to break the top 80 at World Cup round 5.
