Ae Forest SDA round 1

After a long day of travelling on Saturday I arrived back in Edinburgh at 4 30 pm and headed straight to Ae Forest for the first round of the SDA series. A quick bike build, check over and I was ready to roll for practise on Sunday.
After a great night’s sleep in the camper all be it a little cold, I got up early to walk the bottom half of the track. I had a rough idea where to go and headed up for my first practise run. Practise went ok but was nothing special. After riding flat out, World Cup style tracks for the previous ten days, I couldn’t get used to riding flat rooty sections.
The track was typical Ae forest, rocky chute at the top, tight and twisty turns to the step up, some jumps, quick sprint across the fire road before coming in to the final tree section before tackling the step down, two big berms and dropping down the elevator.
My first race run was ok, a couple of pretty big mistakes and I knew I had some time to make up I came down with a 2.13, 9 seconds off the lead and a little disappointed.
A quick power nap and I was re-motivated for the next run, knowing what I had to do I headed up the hill. It was going well to 30 seconds from the end where I dropped low and missing a pretty crucial line I pushed a little harder through the bottom section went to pedal and caught my right hand side on the bank and flipped over the bars on to my head, I grabbed my bike and rode down the final section of track coming in with a 2.16 just 3 seconds off my first run time.
Next event I head to is Glencoe’s Maccavalanche, should be a cool event and something totally different to what I have ever done before. Till then I’ll be doing my last bit of preparation before the season begins as well as studying for my University exams, busy couple of weeks ahead.
