After 4 weeks of studying I was glad to be out the library and back out on the bike. Being a 3rd year student thing had to get a little bit more serious but I knew what I was up against whilst preparing for the season. Luckily excluding South Africa World Cup there wasn't a huge amount of racing going on so I could focus on keeping up a little bit of fitness work and studying at the same time.
Coming in to Glencoe I was feeling pretty good, the bike was set up well and I had just got my new season kit from both POC and Nema, the new kits looking sweet (cheers guys).
A quick look over Met Office and I discovered that the weather wasn't looking too promising, when we got to Glencoe well the Met Office were right, wet and windy. Not to worry, quick track walk all looked good (nice one Fraser Houston and the crew) a few new alterations since I had been there a couple of weeks ago.
Saturday morning came around and I had a great nights sleep in the camper, well rested I got my bike ready and headed up for a few runs, I ended up getting two runs in due to high winds and lack of medics cutting practise short, not too worry I at least had an idea of which corner was which depsite being covered in mud. An early night and I was feeling all prepped for the race the following day.
Sunday morning; I headed up for a couple of early morning runs and was even one of the few sending the last jump and was feeling confident I could put together a good race run, despite the winds picking up. A quick change I put on some fresh kit, washed the bike and had a snack of mum's home made chilli.
Then the bad news came around that the afternoons seeding and racing was cancelled due to high winds with gusts of up to 80mph.
I headed home a little dissapointed but feel that the BDS made the right decision at the end of the day... Olie Burton and I had a little evening sesh on my pumptrack to end a good weekend!
This weekend is Fort William World Cup and I can't wait to get up there and ride the new improvements they've made over the winter.
All the best,
Scotty
